| There is always a mixture of sadness and pleasant recollection when we read of the passing of a friend and that was very much so on reading of that of our late friend and colleague, Rev. Harold Bishop. Harold and I were classmates right through the school from '32 in Form 3B to 5A when Harold left to start work at P.B's. I met up with him again shortly after his period at Manchester Business School and several times later as Vicar of Rainford ParishChurch. More recently we shared happy memories and reminisced at the annual old boys' reunions. On one occasion, I asked Harold whether he remembered Richie's special Monday morning prayer and whether he knew its origin. After a year's reflection we came to the conclusion that the author could have been none other than C.W.H. Richardson himself! The version of the prayer which follows is written , from memory of the inimitable Magister. No doubt many readers will recall the familiar words and maybe some can provide evidence of its origins. |  |

GRANT O Lord, that we may do our work this week as unto Thee and not unto men. All our powers of body and mind are Thine. O Lord: grant that we may devote them all to Thy service. Save us from negligence and indolence, from vanity, pride and self confidence. Teach
us to seek out the truth and enable us to find it
and grant that, while We beseech of Thee, Thy Help and Mercy through Christ our Lord. Amen |
