The Website for all former pupils of the Prescot Grammar Schools

Our thoughts at this time are all turned to the 400th Anniversary of the Foundation of the School by Gilbert Latham on October loth, 1544, and throughout the year preparations have been in progress for celebrating the occasion in such manner as war conditions will permit.

On Tuesday, October loth, a commemoration service will be held in the morning in Prescot Parish Church. It is hoped that the Old Boys' Dinner will be held in the evening.

On Thursday afternoon, the I2th, the Founder's Day Football matches will be played.

On Friday afternoon, the 13th, Speech Day will be held in the Lyme House Cinema, when the Rt. Hon. Oliver Stanley, Colonial Secretary, will distribute the prizes. In the evening the Old Boys' Association hope to hold a danco at the School.

On Saturday, October I4th, a reception will be held in the School.

Other events, the dates of which are not yet fixed, will be the Boys' celebration, the Swimming Gala and the Old Boys' Football Match.

To mark the Quatercentenary a commemorative booklet will be published, containing, among other items, a history of the School, and a fund has been inaugurated to endow scholarships for boys when they leave school. It has long been felt that the School is at a disadvantage in the matter of leaving exhibitions when compared with other schools and it is hoped that a large sum will be forthcoming in order to make good this deficiency and give encouragement to our boys. Particulars may be obtained from the Headmaster.

The Committee in charge of the celebrations consists of :—The Rev. O. L. Martin (Chairman), Mr. B. Welbourn, and Councillors H. F. Taylor and R. LI Thomas, representing the Governors ; the Headmaster, Miss D. M. Huckle and Messrs. F. S. D. Stevenson and F. A. Bailey, representing the School; and Messrs. H. O. Silcock, G. W. T. Bird, T. H. Bishop and J. S. Hall representing the Old Boys' Association.

Further details of the. various events will be issued later.
