This year's prizegiving ceremony was held on Wednesday, 18 December and was attendedd by staff, parents and pupils, both past and present.

The ceremony began with a speech of welcome by the headmistress, Miss Smith. In her speech Miss Smith said that this prize-giving ceremony would in all probability be the last prize-giving of Prescot Girls Grammar School as plans for the amalgamtion with the Boys' School to form one comprehensive were at present under discussion and should be confirmed within the next calendar year.

Miss Smith also stressed to all pupils, that they as intelligent individuals possessed the right to use their initiative in selecting employment, from which they might gain maximum satisfaction,

Mrs. Heyes, Chairman of the Governors, then presented the prizes and certificates. These included form prizes, subject prizes and G.G.E. "O" and "A" level award winners. In her closing speech Mrs. Heyes congratulated both the prize winners and non-prize winners on their achievements, and she hoped that the academic standard of the school would be maintained. For Mrs. Heyes the occasion proved emotional, as it was the last prize-giving ceremony she would attend in her Official capacity as Chairman of the Governors of Prescot Girls Grammar School.

Miss Smith then called upon Janet Sayle, the Head Girl, to give a vote of thanks and Mrs. Heyes was presented with a silver salver.

After the presentation of prizes and certificates, the guests had the| opportunity to meet staff and both past and present pupils over refreshments in the Dining Room and Gym.

The evening was a great success and most enjoyable, Thanks must go to all those who were in any way involved.
