The Website for all former pupils of the Prescot Grammar Schools

The evening of Monday, December 17th was a pleasant social occasion for the school, attended by present and past pupils, parents and staff. It was quite a historic occasion as, owing to the reorganisation of local government, Prescot Grammar School ceases to be controlled by Lancashire, and from April 1974 will come under the Metropolitan District of Knowsley. Hence for Chairman of the Governors, County Alderman Mrs. S. Heyes, who presented the prizes, it was rather a sad occasion. However, in her address, Mrs. Heyes pledged her continuing interest in the school, an interest which she has shown so un-stintingly since the school's inception. She spoke of the high academic achievement of the pupils and hoped that this would be maintained.

In welcoming the guests, Miss Smith also praised the efforts of the girls. She was pleased with the examination results, the willingness to work throughout the sixth form and the award of such good 'A' level grades. Miss Smith also spoke of the difficulty sometimes encountered by leavers in choice of career. She said that there was a tremendous responsibility on each individual to come to a prudent decision by exploring possibilities while still at school.

Mis Smith went on to say that the 1973 'O' level results were of particular interest as this was the first year in which the fifth form had not been put into different streams according to ability. She was pleased to report that the percentage of passes this year was the highest in the school's history.

After the distribution of certificates and prizes, the guests adjourned to the dining room and the gym for refreshments and conversation. The evening was undoubtedly a success.
