PRESCOT
GIRLS' GRAMMAR SCHOOL
MAGAZINE
SUMMER 1975
NO. 20
EditorialWe are
sorry that this year's magazine
does not appear in its usual
professionally printed form. The
soaring costs of printing -
trebling in the last five years -
have entailed severe economies
and we have had to ask the office
staff to type and duplicate the
copy. Our sincere thanks to them
for undertaking this arduous
task.
It
is doubly regrettable that this
has occurred now, as this year's
issue is the twentieth since the
school opened, and will, of
course, be the last produced by
Prescot Girls' Grammar School.
Last
summer we bade farewell to a
number of members of staff; Mr.
Bent, Mrs. Blackwell, Mrs.
G'ordan and Mrs. J. Smith. They
take with them our best wishes
for their future careers. We were
pleased to welcome in their place
Mr. Mahen (German), Miss Corrie
(Biology), Mrs. Gabbatiss (P.E.),
Miss Jesse (Music), and Mrs.
Clarke (Modern Languages).
Our
annual Prize-giving was held in
December, when we were pleased to
welcome Mrs. S. Heyes as our
guest speaker once again. We
congratulate the many girls who
gained passes in the 197^ '0' and
'A' level examinations, and we
wish all those who left school
every success in their chosen
careers.
At
the end of the Autumn term the
school production of 'Antigone'
was presented and the hard work
which cast and producers put into
the play was well rewarded by its
great success with the large
audiences. Other school events
this year have included concerts
by the music department, numerous
field-trips, fund-raising for
charity and a ski-ing holiday in
Switzerland. Our Summer Fair was
again an outstanding success.
We
trust that the school magazine
will continue to serve as an
annual record of school
activities and as a means of
displaying the creative writing
of the pupils. We thank all our
contributors and apologise to the
many whose pieces have
regrettably been excluded owing
to lack of space.
Gillian
Brown and Olwyn Bedborough, L.VI.
