PRESCOT
GIRLS' GRAMMAR SCHOOL MAGAZINE
Summer 1973
No. 18Editorial
The time has
come for us to look back on the events of the
past year, and to congratulate those who have
developed their interests, both in school time
and in any of the clubs which meet after school.
We are sorry to see the departure of Mrs. R.
Byrne, Mrs. R. Crimes, Mr. E. Simms, Mrs. B. P.
Joslin, Miss D. Plews, Miss S. Weaver and Miss A.
Fernie, and we wish them every success in the
future. We hope that the new arrivals; Miss H.
Chesterfield, Mrs. C. Blackwell, Mrs. J. Ing,
Miss F. Cugley, Mrs. J. Owen, Mrs. D. Woodcock,
Miss P. Jones, Miss V. B. Dixon and particularly
our new deputy headmistress, Miss Hankinson, will
be happy and successful in their posts here.
The Open Day was
a great success this year and we would like to
thank County Councillor Mrs. S. Heyes, who
presented the prizes and certificates. Seventeen
girls gained nine G.C.E. 'O' level passes with
one girl achieving ten passes at this level. Many
girls gained passes at 'A' level, and we wish all
those who have left school, success in their
chosen careers.
This year's
school play was a comedy, "The Taming of the
Shrew," by William Shakespeare. Its
remarkable success was a true reflection of the
hard work put in by the girls and staff of both
the English and Art departments.
The musical activities of the school in the past
year have been outstanding. The concerts raised a
large sum of money for the purchase of new
instruments for the school orchestra, which is
fast reaching Halle proportions.
Other activities have included charity work,
field trips, visits to places of interest and the
skiing holiday, which was fortunately
unaccompanied by accidents.
The school has
put on a new face this year, as the painters have
arrived, and we hope the bright colours have
inspired the girls in their creative work, which
can be found in the latter part of the magazine.
Gena Caulton,
Janet Webster, LVI.
