from'About Prescot'. July 1994 A Musical
Celebration
PRESCOT
SCHOOL assembled an outstanding
group of past and present pupils
for a concert on Friday, July
8th, 1994. Members of the
audience were privileged to hear
some truly wonderful performances
by these young musicians.
The
oldest of the group, Tim Williams
(27) had been a regular member of
the School Orchestra and also had
played in both the Knowsley and
Merseyside Youth Orchestras. He
went on to study at Huddersfield
Polytechnic and the Royal
Northern College of Music when
performed both in England and in
Europe, winning a number of
prizes. Tim is a percussionist,
specialising m the marimba (a
larger relative of the
xylophone). He has performed with
many professional groups and is
now well on the way to making a
name for himself.
His
performance astonished and
delighted the audience, as did
the truly wonderful piano playing
of Paul Lewis (22), a young
pianist of outstanding talent.
Paul left Prescot School to
attend Cheetham's School of Music
in Manchester and is currently
studying at the Guildhall School
of Music and Drama in London.
He
has already won many major prizes
and in May 1994 made his London
debut as a professional pianist.
He has broadcast on BBC
television and radio and on
Classic FM. We should soon be
hearing more of Paul Lewis!
Other
soloists were James Vincent (22)
with a virtuoso performance on
the trombone, Ben Sills (18) an
outstanding trumpeter, Laura
Sills (16) a gifted violinist and
David Kemick (16) a very
promising cellist. Laura and
David are leaving Prescot this
summer (1994) to go on to 'A'
level studies.
The
School has every reason to be
proud of its musical prowess. As
a member of the audience was
heard to say, "There isn't a
school in the country that
wouldn't be proud to show off
such an array of talent."
Look out for the next concert at
Prescot. It should be we! worth
your attention!
Congratulations,
Prescot School
