The last P.G.S
Reunion dinner at the Thistle Hotel Haydock was
very well attended by around 150 guests, and also
well chaired by Des Roberts. It was the 20th
consecutive (and last) dinner to be organised by
Jim Taylor - the first was held in 1981.
Many fine tributes were paid to Jim from a number
of associated groups including the Old Prescotian
Luncheon Club who presented him an original
watercolour of Prescot Grammar School which had
been painted from a photograph taken in 1928.
This truly magnificent gesture now has its
permanent nichein Jim's study. Warmest thanks are
also due to John King (a contemporary of Jim's at
P.G.S) who did the research and the presentation.
Then, Trevor Powell and John McIntyre combined
forces to succeed Jim as organisers of future
Reunion Dinners. They also contributed to the
success of the Thistle Reunion Dinner with
commendable efficiency. Jim has also received
from P.G.S Connections website, a further present
of Royal Doulton Crystal. Trevor and John make a
great team which can be relied upon to maintain
our accustomed high standards at future dinners.
The proposed next one on the agenda will be at
the Statham Lodge Hotel on Friday October 18th
2002, subject to confirmation.
Trevor's success with the P.G.S Connection
website guarantees a successful future with
representation increasing daily for Old
Prescotians from the second half of the 20th
century. We have documentation still for c300
pre-1950 Old Prescotians.
"Floreat Prescotia Futurem Uvitatem
Inquirimus"
With best regards to all, Jim Taylor. |
