PGS Film Society
.......
The Prescot Grammar School Film Society began its life in 1967 and ran on into the Seventies. The stalwart staff members behind the society were John Corlett and Roy Taylor, who are seen here with A.N.Other taking entrance fees at the door.

Films were held in the relatively new Spencer Briggs Hall in St. Helens Road and was open to the girls of PGGS.

Comments from the Prescotian Forum
# I remember Straw Dogs being shown. Now THAT was interesting for a teenage lad! [Ian Lawrenson]
# I can only remember a French film called Traffic (Trafic?) and the Four Horses of the Apolcalypse. Not great choices for a teenage boy!
# We had "Blow Up" complete with full-frontal (however briefly) Jane Birkin. That was a treat for 13-year-old lads! However, poor Chas Middlehurst left the performance white-faced and trembling; I don't think he knew such things went on in film. [Paul Carey]
# The films were shown by the Film Society, of which I was briefly, something to do with. I distinctly remember being given the job of going up to Lime St on the train from Prescot after school to pick up the 16 mm prints which were sent up by Red Star from London. And I have a vague recollection that Blow Up was one of the ones I was responsbile for! [Nigel Roberts]
