| According
to today's Liverpool Daily Post, there are
proposals to close all of Knowsley's secondary
schools and replace them with 8 "24 hour
centres". The Prescot School site will be
one of the 8 centres but will be known as
"Knowsley Central" and essentially,
Whiston Higherside and Prescot School will be
amalgamated on this site. Kind of ironic if you
remember that there were (ultimately unsucessful)
proposals to merge these two schools on the
Higherside site in around 1979/80. [Connie via Forum] |

My
sister spoke to staff at the school and it sounds
like this is more than a proposal as the council
already have a site ear marked for this monster
school. Apparently Prescot is full to bursting
while applications to join Higherside have
dropped dramatically, so it looks like they are
willing to sacrifice one good, popular school
with a history unrivalled by many others, to
shore up an unpopular school.
I was appalled when I read about this and wonder
if you have any ideas of how we can get old
Prescotians activated to lobby the council to
come up with something more imaginative for
Higherside and leave Prescot tocontinue
delivering the good service it provides for the
kids of Knowsley. [Jenny Clay] |
