| The
Pubnoshers (or rather
"The Old
Prescotians' Luncheon
Club" as it is now
referred to) consists of Old
Boys of P.G.S. pre-1977.
We assemble about four
times per year at the
Huyton and Prescot Golf
Club although it has been
suggested that the summer
meeting each year should
take place further
afield. Report
of Latest Meeting from
Arthur Whitaker
Last
Wednesday the 18th June
we held another very
enjoyable reunion of the
"The Old
Prescotians' Luncheon
Club" 38 members
attended at the Huyton
and Prescot Golf Club
which has now become our
permanent venue for the 4
events we hold each year.
Actually we have a total
of 68 members on our
register and this
continues to grow. Quite
a few of our members
travel a fair distance to
be with us but last week
the long distance record
was broken when Brian
Cook, on his first visit,
came from Argyll and Bute
in Scotland to be with
us. During lunch I
mentioned to Brian that I
had a blazer which had
belonged to one of our
members (Alec Weston) who
died last year. The
Blazer really is a one
off because it has the
school crest sewn on the
top pocket with the
letters OBA (Old Boys
Association) under the
crest. This was, of
course, the insignia used
by the group of Old Boys
shortly after the St.
Helens Road site was
established in 1924, and
it probably is one of a
very few still in
existence.(if any) There
was another suprise with
the blazer when I found
in the pocket a copy of
the service which was
used at the old school
for the unveiling and
dedication of the war
memorial. This is also
dated 1924 and Brian
asked me to send him a
photostat of the service
sheet for his own
interest.(I do not have a
scanner) Anyway, the
outcome of this was for
Brian to suggest sending
you a copy and this is
attached by courtesy of
Brian's scanner
reproducing the photostat
which I sent to him. It
really is a piece of
school history and it
truly belongs in the
school archives now held
by the Knowsley Library
authorities.I will be
speaking to their
archivist about this. I
also have an original
copy of the PGS
Prospectus when C W H
Richardson was the
headmaster and this is
also dated 1924. This
details the rules and
conditions of all new
pupils to the school when
the fees for a term were
Two Pounds, Three
Shillings, and Eight
Pence (£2/3/8) This also
came to me via Alec
Weston and although it is
a bit bedraggled I will
try for a photostat for
Brian in the hope that he
will be able to scan you
a copy. I will now try my
luck at fitting an
attachment to this
message so keep your
fingers crossed!
Kindest
Regards, Arthur Whitaker.

We
have about 65 members
(and hope everyone
doesn't come at once
otherwise we would have
to re-think very
quickly!). We are mostly
retirees living within
say 30 miles from
Prescot, although there
are some from further
afield. The
normal attendance is
between 35 and 40. Age is
neither a qualification
nor a barrier to
attendance at any of our
gatherings. It is only
necessary to have
attended School as above.
There is an annual
membership subscription
of £2.50 to cover
expenses of
administration.
