2005 Prestigious award for school
bursar Prescot
School is celebrating this week
after its bursar won a top
national award. Karen Griffiths
was named Bursar of the Year 2005
at a ceremony at Merchant
Taylors Hall in London.
Karen,
who has worked in Knowsley for 14
years, said, I was elated
when my name was read out - it is
such an honour to be the first
person in the country to gain
this prestigious award.
Since
joining Prescot School, in
Knowsley Park Lane, five years
ago she has taken responsibility
for the financial and business
management of the school, as well
as leading a team of 28 support
staff.
Karen
was the first member of staff in
the borough to be awarded the
Certificate in School Business
Management, through the National
College of School Leadership. She
is now studying for the Diploma
in School Business Management and
has led the way for others in
professional development.
Her
financial management of the
school was described by OFSTED as
"excellent".
Karen
is a major asset to this
school," said Lynne Heath,
Headteacher of Prescot School.
"Her blend of humour and
self deprecation, coupled with an
incisive wit, enables her to stay
on top of even the most difficult
situations. I know that Karen
will be a great ambassador for
the National Bursars
Association and for those often
unsung heroes in our school who
battle with short term funding
and budget cuts."
