| Gill,
born and bred in the Northwest,
began her playing career at
Liverpool Polytechnic in 1987,
before moving to Waterloo to
establish a womens rugby
team in 1989. She has represented
Waterloo Ladies ever since and is
now the President of the club.
Whilst at Waterloo Gill has given
up an enormous amount of her own
time to further the cause of the
club and that of both mens
and womens rugby. Commenting
on the news of her award, Geoff
Richards, England Womens
Head Coach said:
This
is a great honour for Gill, one
that she thoroughly deserves. She
has been a phenomenal athlete and
is now investing in the sport
through her volunteering both in
the mens and womens
game.
RFU
President, Malcolm Phillip said
today:
"Gill
was an excellent player at club
and international level and has
continued to be a great
ambassador for the game. On
behalf of the RFU I am delighted
that she has received her
award."
Jo
Yapp, England Womens scrum
half and captain added:
Burnsie
is a great player and has done so
much for the game. She is a great
role model for all players and it
is fantastic that she has been
formally recognised for all her
efforts.
